"Front Toward Enemy is a hard-rock group out of Portland, Oregon. In a city primarily known for its heavy alternative scene, the quartet brings a fresh, new sound to the northwest region. The band includes Nick Anthony (bass/lead vocals), Nick Michael (lead guitar/vocals) and Justin Goddard (drums). The band's influences vary far and wide, with each member bringing their own, original sound to the music. They aren't as heavy as many of the popular metal bands of today, however, they do feature screaming, and intense, dual guitar solos. They're almost like the mutt of the modern era, containing influence from metal, hard rock, punk, grunge, classic rock, and alternative, but with an old-school feel.
Front man Nick Anthony takes a great deal of pride in his song-writing. "I come up with all of my lyrics freestyle, and then when I find something I like, I just go with it." Using this technique, he has come up with some very original concepts for songs. For instance, one of their newest songs, Different People (set to release on their upcoming EP) is about the battles in Bastogne, during world war II. Equally as intriguing, The album track on their debut record, Facing the Dragon, is a story about a hero, in medieval times, that goes to battle a dragon on top of a mountain. Though the common listener might not understand the symbolism of this song, it is actually about lead guitarist, Nick Michael, and his conquering drug addiction. At one point, it had gotten to such a point that he had to make a choice - drugs, or the band. In the end, he gave up drugs entirely (quitting cold-turkey) and has been 100% drug free ever since.
The band has already released a single album, and intends to release an EP in spring of 2010. The band frequently plays shows in the northwest region, and has ventured as far south as Las Vegas, NV. You can catch them regularly in the Portland area. Their debut album is available for purchase on www.cdbaby.com, and their EP is expected to be released in late summer early fall 2010."
